Saint Joseph’s Tender and Loving Heart - A Prison of Love

Hi

How are you doing? Grabe, Pasko na in two months!

Minsan napapakanta na lang ako ng Jose Mari Chan, pero of course, sa Beyond Kilig ang forever LSS ko yung Restless Soul!

Speaking of Christmas, I think one of my favorite parts of Pope Francis’ apostolic letter Patris Corde (With A Father’s Heart) is yung title of Saint Joseph, “A tender and loving father.”

We barely get to hear from the Man who fathered Jesus and “The” Gentleman of the Blessed Virgin - as I said previously in our Saint Joseph Podcast, Saint Joseph never spoke a single word in the Bible!

But I think hearing how Pope Francis compared what family life may have looked like in Nazareth to what Our Lord had done in Israel, nakaka-heartwarming pakinggan ang mga ito:

“He taught him to walk, taking him by the hand; he was for him like a father who raises an infant to his cheeks, bending down to him and feeding him.” (cf. Hos 11:3-4)

Look how Saint Joseph became a tender and loving father! As the Holy Father continued, he emphasizes this is possible only by learning “to look upon our weaknesses with tender mercy.”

This reminded me of my own failures, how I easily and scrupulously count them year by year, and allowing them to get into my system.

How we easily forget the mercy of God! The merciful loving father that he made us to have - Saint Joseph.

Another quote of Pope St. John Paul II came to mind as some friends and I were intrigued the other day: “the worst prison would be a close heart.”

A blogger commented:

“The heart being a prison–the worst one–does not see people in their most beautiful form. The heart being a prison does not feel other people’s human side. The heart being a prison is suspicious and paranoid.”

I can only say that we, children of God, of Mother Mary and of St. Joseph our father, have to go against the grain by seeking:

Jesus, turn our restless hearts and souls into yours! Mary, allow me to see the beauty of genuine femininity! Joseph, grant me the heart of a tender and loving son that exudes authentic masculinity!

May our hearts be a prison for you Three, as the Eucharistic Lord is kept in the prison of Love, that is, the Tabernacle.

And may Mary and Joseph, our true lodis, be always there to guide us in growing ourselves to be tender and loving children of God.

Sincerely,

Francis
