{{contact.first_name}}, why are you looking for love?

Hello

Happy Sunday! How has life been treating you?

I was driving around doing errands yesterday when a Kpop song came on the radio.

I only understood the song when they got to the chorus and started singing:

“But we were born to be alone, yeah we were born to be alone, yeah we were born to be alone, so why we still looking for love?”

Napa-iling nalang ako. No hate to the girl group ha, they’re very talented.

But this song just goes to show that at times, the message we get in songs or media are just sooooo contrary to the truth, to what Theology of the Body wants us to discover about ourselves.

“...So why we still looking for love?”  The short answer?

Because contrary to what the song says, we are not born to be alone.

In Genesis 2:18, God said, "It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper as his partner."

God then went on to make “every animal of the field and every bird of the air” and brought them to Adam, but even after naming all of them....

Adam still couldn’t find in any of them a partner.

There was still that longing for something else...for someone else. It was only when God created Eve that Adam’s original solitude ended.

God knew what he needed, what he wanted and gave her to him.

Did it end happily ever after? Well...not really.  Does that mean though that it isn’t worth it?

Relationships - actually, love, in general - can be messy, difficult, and even painful; but, it can also be equally inspiring, fulfilling, and enriching.

It can push us to the brink of our sanity, but also allow us to discover strength - and selflessness - we never knew we had.

“...I will make him a helper as his partner.”

We are meant to live in communion with others, to help, to be of service to our friends, families, and society.

How different would the world be if everybody the mindset of being a gift to the people around us?

How great would it be if we won’t feel the need to think of ourselves first because everybody else around us has our best interest in mind?

Let’s look at the relationships in our life.

Are we able to make the people around us feel this safe?

Are we brave and selfless enough to love this way?

Too idealistic? 😊 Maybe.

But if there’s anything I learned from Theology of the Body, it’s that we should fight for real authentic love, not just the kind of love that’s being peddled to us by mainstream media.

Let’s rediscover what love really is. As the saying goes “Let’s be the change we want in the world.” 😉

As always, I hope that as you journey through life, you become brave and selfless enough to love, beyond kilig.

All the best,

Carla
