When I was writing the Clandestine Magic trilogy about a wizard and an anti-magic activist in a warped version of America, I had an idea about a town dance they would go to. But it didn't fit neatly into the plot, so I gave a deep sigh and skipped it.
Dearest readers, I do love second chances.
The series box set is coming out as an ebook soon, and in it is a bonus short story about that dance. It's set the night before Radical begins, when Omnimancer Peter Blackwell and Beatrix Harper are working at cross purposes and the townspeople are whispering about whether or not these two are involved with each other.
So the story has a lot more perspectives than usual. You'll hear from Beatrix and Peter, of course, but also the matchmaking mayor, the wealthy and judgmental Mrs. Price, the wizard-hunting Lillian Sederey, the sandwich shop owner who's sure he's figured out what's really going on, and a character who notices (and feels) far more than anyone realizes.
The box set will be in Kindle Unlimited. But I know you don't all have a subscription, and I don't want to make anyone who's already bought the books pay $7.99 just for a short story. So here's a tip: Wait for my early January email, and you can grab the box set for just 99 cents. That's a one-time-only deal.
And here's something you can do to help.
Readers find books through other readers, which is why it's such a gift to authors to leave reviews. Once the box set launches in late December, I'd be really grateful if you'd write one. Short, long, it's all good. None of the hundreds of reviews from the individual books carry over to the box set, so it's starting off from square one.
I have a limited number of advance review copies to hand out. That means you might be able to get your hands on the trilogy and short story now — whether you've read the series before or not — if you'd like to leave an honest review on Amazon afterward. Fill out this short survey to raise your hand:
(Haven't read them yet? Here's what they're about.)
I'll be sending out those advance review copies very soon. (If you signed up for an ARC for the fairy tale anthology I mentioned earlier, you'll be hearing more about that in 2022 — and you can certainly sign up here, too.)
Oh! And the trilogy is already out as an audio box set. If you're in the mood to listen instead, you can find that here.
The audio set has the three novels only, not the bonus story. But you'll love narrator Leanne Woodward. She got Beatrix and Peter. I didn't have to say "this is how I imagine them sounding," she just did it like she read my mind. (And I don't know how she can manage a scene with five women and make them all sound absolutely distinct, but she does.)
Also: Look how pretty!
If you feel moved to leave a review for the audiobooks, I'd certainly appreciate that, too! ❤️
But no matter what, thank you for reading, both the books and the chatty bookish emails. Books are nothing without readers.

A few more cool & bookish things
I recently finished a fantasy romance that was such a fun, zippy read: Elsie Winters' Leviathan's Song, which delightfully throws together a socially awkward weapons maker and a siren who'd really rather not influence people. Here's the premise:
When Elara races to save a dying city, her best hope lies with a seductive siren. But brooding Levi has his own reasons for keeping her at arm’s length.
As an elven weapon smith, Elara is an expert in crafting beautiful, deadly things. When an underwater city known as the Deep sends for her help, she’s determined to answer the call … but between murderous gangsters and razor-sharp foreign politics, Elara is ill-equipped to handle the situation on her own.
Levi Navarre is half-merman and all brooding, sardonic wit. Landlocked, jaded, and rejected by his people, the last thing Levi wants to do is get involved in underwater affairs. But soft-hearted, strong-willed Elara is a temptation he just can’t resist ... even if she is several miles out of his league. Levi has good reason to avoid the obvious magical bond forming between him and Elara—but if he isn’t careful, playing bodyguard could soon turn into something more …
