I have to admit something: I hate spoilers.
OK, that's not an uncommon feeling, but it is a pretty funny stance for a person who, as a kid, would go into the library, pick a book off the shelf and start reading it somewhere in the middle. For reasons that escape me now, I thought that was a good way to decide if it would be something I'd like. Young me read multiple books that way: Starting in the middle, reading to the end and only then catching up with the first half of the book. Crazy, right? (Please tell me I'm not the only one who did this.)
After I stopped reading in that unusual fashion, I eventually developed a strong dislike for finding out key plot points before I could experience them as the author intended. I want to get that swoop of the heart that comes with a great twist.
So I try pretty hard not to spoil my readers in case you feel the same way. And I also want to give all you awesome newsletter folks things you can't find elsewhere. That's why I'm not putting the first (long!) chapter of book 2 in the Clandestine Magic trilogy in an easily accessible place on my website. It's tucked away in a spot you have to know about to find.
You're in the know now: You can find the beginning of Radical here.
You may not have seen Subversive yet, so I won't toss any spoilers here by saying anything about the plot of Radical. I'll just say that this is the book out of the three in the trilogy that I labored the longest and hardest on. Second books are tricky, you guys, and I wanted it to be as good as it could be.
Thank you to everyone who's read Subversive and shared their thoughts about it! I really appreciate it.
Now I'd like to hear your thoughts about something else: What's the most unusual way you've read a book? How did it affect your reading experience? Reply to let me know. Brownie points for hilarity. 📖
A P.S.: There's a bunch of free-this-month fantasy books here. (I've already downloaded a couple.) Also: If you're a Kindle Unlimited reader who likes romantic stories with magical or fantastical elements, check out these free-to-read KU books (and oh, hey, this list includes Subversive). If you like romance whether it's got fantasy or not, here's another collection of free-on-KU books that range from sweet to ... very not sweet (just a heads up / enticement, depending on where in that range you prefer to stay).
