Hi, awesome people! The second book in my Clandestine Magic series came out this weekend, so I'm feeling excited and exhausted. (How are you?)
One quick thing I should mention in case you're eyeing these novels about suffragists vs. wizards (and one suffragist and one wizard in particular): Pricing on Subversive and Radical is about to go up, so now's a good time if you want the first one for 99 cents and the second for $1.99.
What I mainly wanted to chat about today, though, is the One Question to Rule Them All.
Julie at One Book More did a Q&A with me recently, and she asked a question so brilliant that I told her I was going to steal borrow it. I now want to ask it of everyone I meet.
And I'm really curious what your answer would be.
If you had magical ability, what would you most like to do with it?
See? Brilliant. It's like a Rorschach test: one of those inkblots you stare at, say what you think it looks like, and possibly reveal something about yourself into the bargain.
Because what is magic if not power? And what we'd like to do with power ... well, that definitely does say something about us.
What's your answer?
You can check out the One Book More Q&A to see what I said, though what I left out is perhaps the most revealing thing about me.
See, I've often thought that a shame spell would be really something. You know: You see someone doing something wrong, you give them the magical stink eye — shaaaaame — and they feel honestly and deeply sorry for what they did and resolve never to do it again.
How amazing that would be, right? You'd stop mistreatment in its tracks. You'd never have to worry about corrupt politicians or terrible bosses or unfair decisions ever again.
I was about to write it down in response to Julie's question. Only then did I consider the possibility that this power to warp people's feelings and make them do what I think is right could go, you know, horrifically wrong.
Oof.
So maybe I don't want that.
But unicorn rainbow fart power sounds like fun. :-D
Thank you, Julie, for the excellent question and for giving my Clandestine Magic trilogy a try!
Cheers,
Colleen
P.S. 📚 At the end of Radical, I promised to share an exclusive look at the beginning of Revolutionary to all my awesome newsletter readers. Here it is! 📚(Don't peek if you haven't read the first two books and hate spoilers.)
P.P.S. If you're a Kindle Unlimited reader, check out these free-on-KU fantasy books (Subversive and Radical are there, plus a lot of other novels). If you're not in KU, no fear: Here's a giveaway with (different) free-for-the-moment fantasy books.
