I am delighted to share my latest single with you! It diverges from my usual upbeat and playful style, but I felt compelled to write it.

The Story behind the song:

I had been battling a severe case of writer's block, the worst I had experienced in years. Imposter syndrome had set in and I found myself second-guessing, third-guessing, and even fourth-guessing my abilities. Despite trying for a few weeks, I was still struggling to make any progress. That's when I reached out to my mentor, a songwriter named Andrea Stolpe who gave me some valuable advice. She suggested that I should relax and allow the songs to come to me instead of constantly trying to generate ideas myself. It was a simple suggestion, but it changed my perspective and helped me to be more receptive to inspiration from the world around me. That evening, thanks to TikTok, I was made aware of the final letter Lenard Cohen wrote to his lifelong friend and muse Marianne (ie. "So long, Marianne"). You can read the entire article here but this small section really hit hard:

"Well Marianne it’s come to this time when we are really so old and our bodies are falling apart and I think I will follow you very soon. Know that I am so close behind you that if you stretch out your hand, I think you can reach mine"

This was calling out to become a song.

I got the opportunity to workshop and recording this song with my buddy Chris Wemp (have a listen to his music here).

This song was originally created for my Patreon song-a-month club. If you're curious about the original version and more about the story behind the song, simply follow this link.

Thank you for your support and for listening. I'd love to hear if the song resonates with you! Reply here to tell me what you think.

All the best,

Karl
