Friends!
How have we reached the end of August already?!? While fall is my favorite season, the past few months have zipped by so fast that I find myself wishing we could hold onto summer a little longer. But ready or not, my kiddos start school in just over a week! With my oldest heading to middle school and my third (of four) starting kindergarten, we'll have plenty of adjustments in the coming months, but also so much to look forward to. What adventures do you have in store this fall?
In the midst of school supply shopping, a trip to northern Wisconsin with my extended family, starting a new job as an admin for the music department at my church, and trying to squeeze in some last-minute summer fun with the kids, I *finally* made some writing progress on The Dancer and the Dragon Speaker! With my word count at a little less than half of where it needs to be, I still have a long way to go! But I'm loving how this story is coming together so far (especially the relationships between my main character and her four sisters!), and I'm excited to have more dedicated writing time once we're on a more predictable schedule for the fall. Enjoy this sneak peek into the sisters' preparations for heading to a nighttime ball - this is a Twelve Dancing Princesses retelling, after all :)
And can you believe A Noble Purpose releases in just over a month? Kind of a scary thought, but I can't wait!! I'm almost done with formatting, and a few last edits just came in from my proofreader. EEP, YOU GET TO READ IT SO SOON! If you'd like to read it before everyone else, consider applying for an advance copy! Both The Intertwined Tales (which also start releasing in a month! Yay!!) and The Cornerstone Series are looking for fans of clean fairy tale retellings to read early copies of our books for the low cost of considering leaving a review :) Check out the applications below!
As a last fun note, do you ever wish someone would compile a list of amazing fantasy and science fiction books organized by subgenre? Especially if they were all available at a discount or on Kindle Unlimited? C.L. Cannon's Fantasy & Sci Fi Book Fair has you covered! Scroll through to discover over 100 new reads, or click a category to go straight to your favorite genre. Happy reading!
Have a wonderful fall, my friends! I hope you get to enjoy beautiful weather and a great start to the school year (if that's applicable to you!). I'm heading back to the writing cave, but I'll see you next month with more updates!
Book Spotlights
Have you read any books in the Curse Keeper, Curse Breaker series yet? E.J. Kitchens is one of my all-time favorite authors, and these books are so full of humor, fun fairytale twists, and sweet romance! Of Curses and Hearts is the latest in the series (which can each be read as a standalone) and retells The Princess and the Pea.
Princess Blythe’s heart is made of glass, and someone’s out to break it—literally.
Prince Murdock’s heart is the prize of the princess tests, and someone’s out to steal it—fatally.
Speaking of fantastic series, I'd highly recommend the Green Princess trilogy by H.L. Burke! Swoony (but still clean!) romance, such a cool magic system, and the snarkiness that I always enjoy in this author's books :) Get started with Flower, and make sure to read through all three books to get to the epic conclusion!
If you're a fan of short stories and fairy tale retellings with unexpected twists, then you should check out Beka Gremikova! We've had stories in several anthologies together, and she always gets me to see fairy tales from a new perspective. The Spindle Trap is a Sleeping Beauty retelling where the princess chooses to trigger the curse for the sake of her family - plus some Parent Trap vibes!
Audiobook fans, rejoice! I shared about Mask of Deception and Sacrifice by Callie Thomas a few months ago (a clean but swoony retelling of The Phantom of the Opera), and now it's available in audio form!
