Hi friends!
A Noble Purpose releases in one week!!!! Eeeep! I've been learning so much while getting this book ready for publication. I did my own formatting (scary!) and set up everything on Amazon myself (scarier - especially since they wouldn't accept my paperback for like a week and wouldn't tell me why. Grr.). It's definitely been a trial and error kind of process, but I feel all the more proud of and connected to this book since I got to see the production process through every step of the way! And I'm so grateful to the more experienced authors in the Cornerstone Series who have been quick to share insights and advice.
The ebook of A Noble Purpose is the only version up for preorder, but on its release date (October 1st!!) it will also be available in paperback and hardcover forms! Because Amazon has been such a pain I haven't had a chance to hold this book in my hands yet, but my author copies should be coming soon! I can't wait!! If you're interested in learning more about Hans, Who Made the Princess Laugh (the rather obscure Norwegian folktale I retold in A Noble Purpose), check out the videos I posted last week on Instagram / Facebook to hear the storyline of the original fairy tale and how I ended up retelling it for this series.
Speaking of Instagram, don't miss out on the Swoony Fantasy Romance Signed Paperback Giveaway! The only way to enter is on Instagram, so follow the instructions on this post for your chance to win! So many authors are participating that they split the prize pack into two bundles :)
After my October starts with a bang celebrating the release of A Noble Purpose, I'll be getting ready for the Literature and Lattes book event near Sioux Falls, South Dakota! I can't wait to be a part of an author panel and meet and greet on Friday, October 25th, followed by signing and selling books at the book fair on Saturday, October 26th! If you live in the Minnesota / South Dakota / North Dakota area (or are looking for a bookish weekend away!), I hope you'll check out this fun opportunity to take free writing classes and meet authors in a variety of genres (all clean!).
With a few weeks of school under our belts, my family is starting to settle into a new routine. Busy, but good :) Writing is coming along on The Dancer and the Dragon Speaker, though still not as quickly as I'd hoped. But I'm loving how the story is coming together, and I'll keep plugging away! My house will probably be a disaster as my deadline approaches, but it's so worth it! I can always clean later :)
I hope you all have a lovely October! I've been reading some fantastic books lately and would love to hear about your recent recommendations. See you next month (and maybe in-person at the Literature and Lattes event!)!
Book Spotlights
I read two Hanna Sandvig books this past month, and I can't wait to read more! Modern girls getting entwined in the land of faerie - breaking curses, evading danger, falling in love... Such a fun, creative series, perfect for fairy tale fans! The Glass Gate is a Cinderella retelling involving a reluctant prince, fashion, and fake dating. And mark your calendars, because it will be F R E E from October 13th-17th!
Have you read any books by Mary Mecham yet? She's becoming another one of my favorite authors of fairy tale retellings, with lots of humor, plot twists, and swoony romance. Betraying Korth, Book Three in her Legends of Neverland series, just released on September 13th! I'm so intrigued by this Goose Girl retelling told from the perspective of the villainous maid.
My husband and I travelled to Door County, Wisconsin for our honeymoon, so you can bet Toni Cabell's Faeries of Door County series caught my eye! Half a Faerie just released on September 5th!
When a hunky, human rock star stands up at his best friend’s wedding, he never expects to encounter vampires, werewolves, and the woman of his dreams. But she’s not what she seems… she’s half a faerie.
Are you a fan of portal fantasy? Me too! Aerisian Refrain by Sarah Ashwood is Book One in her Beyond the Sunset Lands series. These books recently got new covers, and they're so gorgeous! Annie wakes up from a plane crash to find herself in a parallel world where she discovers danger, new powers, and romance. I can't wait to read it!
