Do you have a good sense of direction, {{contact.first_name}}?

Sometimes I have no idea where I am 😲

Welcome to this week's newsletter ,

A couple of days ago I walked through part of the city that I didn't really know. I needed to go to a particular place, so I had carefully looked on Google Maps before I left, to find it and see how to get there.

Everything worked fine. I found the place, did what I had to do and then left. However, I decided to look around and walk back to the U-Bahn Station a different way. It was interesting, just looking around. I didn't get lost, either 😀.

Some people are really good at finding their way in a new place. They just do it naturally, without their smartphone or sat nav (1). Others have problems. I think I usually have a good idea of what direction I'm heading, but I've made some mistakes, too.

One amazing time was in Singapore. I came up from the underground train station and had no idea of where I was, but I wanted to see the Merlion (2). I knew it was by the water and somehow, although I could only see tall buildings and the street, I walked straight there.

Then, other times, I get it really wrong 🫣.

In Mainz, I often get confused. I have been there a lot of times, but there are heaps of small streets in the centre of the city and sometimes I end up taking the wrong one.

Then, a few weekends ago, I was in a new town. Note: it was a small town, not a big city. Nevertheless, I got lost! I walked along different streets and saw most of the things I wanted to see. But if I look at a map, I can't tell you the exact route I took.

I had a screen-shot of Google Maps with me and I had to use that to finally make my way back to the train station.

In the end it was all good. I had an adventure and got tired and thirsty, but there was no big problem.

How about you? Are you good at knowing which way to go to get to places in a city? Or are you a person who gets lost easily? Reply and tell me how much you depend (or not) on your smartphone or sat nav for directions.

Have a fantastic week,

Andrea

(1) sat nav - a device that is often in cars and tells you which road to take.

(2) the Merlion - a statue in Singapore, half lion and half mermaid.
