Hello again ,
Housework. You know - those jobs we do around our homes to keep our lives running. Some I really don't like doing, while others aren't so bad.
I have written before about cleaning windows. It's a job that gives really noticeable results. And it doesn't take so long (per window). On the first of May I cleaned mine and they are still sparkling 😀.
Then there's the floor. Some people have amazing vacuum cleaners and they love using them.
Others have robot-vacuums that run around the floor and do all the work for you. One lady I heard about had a robot vacuum. But she didn't save any time, because when it was working she sat and watched it!
Vacuum cleaning isn't one of my favourite jobs. I have to schedule it for a special day to make sure I do it.
A while ago my vacuum cleaner broke. I didn't get it repaired or buy a new one - I bought a broom 🧹and I like using it a lot more. (I'm really turning into a hippie 😊).
Another job around the house is the washing up (1). We didn't have a dishwasher when I was growing up. Or maybe we had four of them (my siblings and I 😑). In my flats, I've never had a dishwasher, so I've always washed up by hand.
When it was for six (or more!) people, that wasn't much fun, but in my flat by myself, it was fine. In fact, I couldn't sit and relax until it was done.
Then there's the ironing. I don't find many people who say positive things about this chore. But it isn't so bad. Plus you can make it easier if you hang clothes or lie them flat while they're wet to reduce creases (2).
I don't have many clothes that need ironing which is maybe why I don't mind doing it. It's satisfying to see the difference between the garments before ironing, when they're all creased and afterwards, when they're neat and ready to wear.
What do you think about the different jobs we do around the house? Is ironing your thing, or vacuuming? Do you have strategies so that you do the jobs you don't like? As always, I love hearing your thoughts.
Have a wonderful week!
Andrea
(1) washing up - washing plates, cups, knives, forks etc. after a meal (or cooking)
(2) creases - lines on clothes where they aren't nice and flat. They can be good when it is just one down the front of trouser legs!
