Hey ,
It's confession (1) time. This is my embarrassing (2) moment for the year. Well, I hope it's the biggest or worst mistake I make, but the year's not finished yet!
Most of the time, I travel by train.
It's not just for big trips. I use commuter trains (3) daily to get to and from work or wherever else I want to go.
Which means I also spend a lot of time at train stations. That's very true of the one I get off at for work. I seem to have spent a lot of time waiting there for trains that were delayed, or worse, cancelled.
About a month ago, I went to my regular platform to wait for my train home. I'm talking about my normal commuter train.
As has been typical for a few months, I had to wait for a while.
Finally, the number appeared on the display board- another train, followed by my train.
What happened, I don't know. I think I was reading something on my tablet. A train stopped in front of me and I got on.
I found a seat and kept reading.
We stopped at a couple of stations. I was still reading, so I don't even think I heard the announcements.
The next announcement got my attention! Not only was it a station that wasn't on the line that I take, it was the end of the line!
What?
I was totally confused. Had my train been sent to another station due to a problem? It has happened before ...
No, I finally focussed on an information screen and learned I was on the wrong train.
Oops! I couldn't believe what I'd done. Whatever I was reading must have been super interesting!
As the train I was on left in the other direction in a few minutes, I stayed on until it stopped at a station that the train I should have been on went through.
I also focussed very carefully at train stations for the next few days!
Have you ever done that, ? Stepped onto a train or tram or bus and then, when the doors have shut, realised it was the wrong one? Please tell me your story.
May all the trains (or buses or trams) you catch be the right ones!
Have a wonderful week,
Andrea
(1) confession - when you tell someone about the bad things you've done
(2) embarassing - makes your face go red and you feel like you want to disappear
(3) commuter train - not a long-distace train. A train that regularly takes people into and then out of a city (e.g. for work)
