To wait or not to wait ...

It's always a big question!

Greetings ,

A couple of times recently I have been in long lines. I must admit (1), both times I felt quite negative about standing and waiting. However, neither time was as bad as I thought it would be.

The first time was at the Post Office. Usually I only go there if the line is short (sometimes the end of the queue (2) can be ten metres outside the building 😯). It feels like I'm losing time out of my day, just standing there, waiting to pay.

But I really needed to post a letter, so what should I do? I thought about going to a different Post Office. But there might have been a line there, too. And if I went to another Post Office I wouldn't be so close to where my next class was.

So, I decided to wait. I really hoped I would post the letter and have time to walk to class. If the queue moved too slowly, I would leave, knowing I had waited as long as I could.

Amazingly, it all worked! I posted my letter and there was still plenty of time before my class started.

The next day I ended up in another line. It wasn't as urgent, so I could have come back at another time. But the queue wasn't the longest I had seen it, so I decided to wait.

We moved very slowly (😑). I wondered if I had made the right decision.

Then a couple of assistants came along the queue and asked us one at a time why we were there. I explained what I wanted to do and the assistant took me from almost the end of the line and served me next.

Yes, it was good for me, but I felt really bad for the people who had been waiting longer than me. I'm sure some of them were there for the same thing as me.

I must remember these great experiences and stay more positive next time I have to wait in line!

Do you like waiting in queues? Do you only wait if it's short? Have you had any interesting experiences? Let me know if you have...

Enjoy your week,

Andrea

(1) admit - to tell or share, even if it makes me look bad 🥴

(2) queue - a line of people waiting for something (you say it, just like the letter - 'Q')
