Things to do in our free time

Hey ,

All of us have free time, I think. Time when we're not working (for our employer) or doing housework. And most people have special activities they do in their free time.

When I was young, I had several different hobbies.

One was reading. I always had my nose in a book. Not just story books - specialist books (1), too. Although I seldom read stories now, I still read to learn. Sometimes it's books, but I also research things on the internet.

In my teenage years, as well as a book, I usually had a handcraft project in progress. Yes, I knitted (2) and sewed (3). I also did heaps of other handcrafts. Interestingly, over the last few years I have re-found my love of knitting, sewing and other handcrafts.

For some cooking is a hobby. A meal becomes an amazing feast and a cake a work of art. I enjoy cooking, but for me it's not really a hobby.

Speaking of art, some people draw, paint, take photographs, etc They are super creative! They take ideas from their brains and produce them for us to look at. That's too difficult for me!

For other people, sports and outdoor activities are their hobbies. They run, cycle, rock climb, canoe or swim. I'm sure you can name heaps of others, as well! Except for riding horses, I wasn't interested in outdoor activities when I was younger. However, that has changed.

Then there are those who love motors and mechanical things. It's not my thing. But one of my nephews loves motors! He got a motorbike to ride on the farm when he was in high school. And soon he could take the engine to pieces and put it back together.

Other people love their gardens. They have green thumbs and create a mini oasis for themselves to enjoy.

There are plenty of other hobbies. Collecting things, board games, playing musical instruments, singing, acting or dancing. There are heaps of different ways to relax and enjoy ourselves away from 'work'.

So, , what hobbies do you have, or what activities do you like doing in your free time? Are they the same activities you did when you were younger, or have they changed? Hit 'Reply' and tell me.

'Bye for now,

Andrea

(1) specialist books - books with facts and information about a special topic.

(2) to knit - to make something from wool, using two long, thin needles, or one long one that is flexible and has points at each end.

(3) to sew - to make something (for example, clothes) from fabric. In the old days, we sewed by hand. But it's much faster with a sewing machine!
