Greetings
Over the years I’ve done a few trips. Not as many as some people, but a nice number. And things are usually OK — nothing major (1) goes wrong.
However, there was one time when I arrived home but my luggage didn’t!
I had gone to America, which was my first really long flight. However, it wasn’t a holiday. I was there to attend a workshop.
We spent most of the week learning computer stuff. Maybe that sounds boring to you. Well, it probably shows how nerdy we were, because we found it quite interesting. Or perhaps we just found it useful.
The trip home seemed to go smoothly enough. First I had a short flight to Los Angeles International Airport, followed by the long flight to Melbourne International Airport.
When I arrived in Melbourne I went through Immigration and then waited at the baggage carousel (2).
You just expect your luggage to appear, don’t you? I waited patiently as other people got their bags and left.
Then the carousel stopped moving. My bag hadn’t appeared yet…
Suddenly I had a sick feeling in my stomach (3). OK, this was new!
I looked around the room and saw a desk called the ‘Lost Luggage Desk’ or something. I told the official my problem and they took my information.
When I had done that, I went to wait for my flight to Tasmania.
It was a strange feeling - not dropping off a suitcase first!
It was even stranger being able to walk straight through the arrivals terminal and not wait for my luggage!!
The good thing about it was that it was the trip home. I didn’t have to suddenly buy clothes or toiletries (4) to survive.
Back in my flat, I organised things for my return to work the next day. At about 8 o’clock that evening, my phone rang. My bag had arrived at my local airport - they’d deliver it to me the next day.
And they did, early in the morning, before I left for work.
Such a relief 😊.
I really hope your luggage has never gone missing. But if it has, please tell me what happened.
Have a great week!
Andrea
(1) major - big or important
(2) baggage carousel (or luggage carousel) - the thing at the airport with a 'belt' or 'track' that moves around and around, where they put your luggage so you can collect it
(3) stomach - the first place in your body your food goes to when you eat. You say it 'stom-ik'
(4) toiletries - 'things' we use to keep our body clean and tidy, e.g. soap, deoderant, toothpaste and toothbrush, shampoo, hair brush and comb
