Oh no! A new computer program

G'day ,

Modern technology definitely has its good and bad sides. Computers, tablets, smartphones, can you survive without them?

It doesn't matter if it's for work or something in our private life, we learn the system or software, and it becomes really easy for us. We know exactly how to use every function (1) that we need to.

And then they change it!

Maybe it's just an update. Things are sort of the same, with some minor changes. I guess we've all used software and had that happen, for example, with an email program or something. It can be annoying (2), but it's nothing major.

However, the changes can be bigger. Sometimes, a company might start using a new program. The old program did things one way. The new one does the same stuff but totally differently. You must quickly learn the new system, because your work doesn't stop.

I had that experience recently. A new computer program with new login details. It was frustrating (3) when I tried to do things the 'old' way. Thankfully, it wasn't hard to learn the 'new' way. I just went through and pressed all the buttons.

That's how I like to learn a new system, by going through and trying things. I press this button and that button and see what happens. It usually works really well.

Sometimes I get a strange result, but it's normally easy to 'undo' what I did and return to safety.  The people who write the software try and make things as user-friendly as possible.

From time to time, you must learn software that's very new to you. There are a lot of functions, and you need to understand what is possible and how you make it happen.

That can take a while. Some people like to read instructions. That can help - it's great for learning what the software can do. However, I still prefer to play around and learn by doing. If there's something special I want to do, maybe then I'll read about it.

How do you feel about learning new software or computer systems, ? Have you changed to new software recently? Do you prefer to learn by doing (or playing 😉) or by reading the instructions?

Have a fantastic week,

Andrea
