Hello ,
I've just been on holiday. I stayed overnight in some regular hotels, but other places were very different!
First there was the little, private function room (1). The inside was all wood and there were beautiful old tools (2) and things for decoration. There was a little toilet/washroom, a tiny kitchen and a medium-sized bar.
I slept on a fold-away bed at the back of the room. It wasn't luxurious, but it was all I needed. And the owners gave me an excellent breakfast!
Next, I stayed at a private hostel. I'll be clear - I don't like the idea of sharing a bedroom or bathroom with a heap of other people. I knew this place was small, but I still wasn't looking forward to it.
The lady put me in a room with three beds 😑.
And I had the place to myself 😀.
I think the building was once an old garage. The bedroom had a low ceiling and was dark and cold.
The bathroom was newer. It was also a work of art! Colourful small glass tiles curved between plain white ones. It felt like a bathroom in a high-class hotel!
Dinner was a lovely evening meal with the couple who owned the place. We ate in a room full of plants and the centre of table was filled with all sorts of decorations. The night I had been worried about was totally amazing!
My third night with unusual sleeping arrangements was very basic. I had booked a private room in an accommodation building at an education centre. It's the kind of place a teacher would take a class for several days so they could learn about farm animals or enivonmental things.
I arrived on Easter Sunday, so Reception was definitely closed! It took me a while to work out where to go to find someone to check me in.
The room and bathroom were very basic, but everything was clean. There was no internet available in my room (I wasn't happy about that), but everything else was fine.
What kind of traveller are you, ? Do you need your own room with all kinds of luxuries, or are you happy to stay in cheaper places that are a bit different?
Safe travels (and sleep well!),
Andrea
(1) function room - somewhere you have a function, like a big birthday party, a work dinner, or a political meeting or something
(2) tools - things used to do things with, like hammers. and saws
