Hey there ,
It's been a while since I last travelled by air - almost ten years. But because Tasmania is an island, I have actually flown quite a bit - to other parts of Australia as well as overseas (to other countries).
Basically I like the experience of travelling by air. Yes, I have to get to the airport. After that, I have no control - it's up to the airline if and when I arrive at my destination.
Once, I was headed to Lombok in Indonesia. First there was the flight from Tasmania to Melbourne, then the international part from Melbourne to Bali and finally I had to catch a domestic flight from Bali to Lombok.
I arrived at the airport in Melbourne. At check-in they told me the flight was delayed. They gave me a voucher to spend at the airport (enough for one piece of brownie and a bottle of water - airport prices are expensive!).
But the delay meant that I wouldn't be able to catch the connecting flight to Lombok 😕. Because it was the airline's fault, they made new arrangements for me. There wasn't another flight that day, so they booked me on the first flight (early!) the next morning and arranged for me to stay in a hotel near the airport overnight.
It all worked fine. It was a holiday, so there wasn't any reason for me to get to Lombok on the day I had arranged. I just accepted the new plan and treated the experience as an adventure.
However, I also flew a lot during the years I studied and with those trips, there was more pressure for the planes to run to schedule. The campus I needed to go to as a distance education student was about two hours from Melbourne by train. Although I left plenty of time, I was always worried until I was on board the train.
But nothing ever went wrong - on the trips to the university. I have a couple of interesting stories to tell about the trips back home.
Do you enjoy flying? Have you ever had problems with planes being delayed or cancelled? Feel free to tell what you think of flying - or any stories of flights that haven't gone to plan...
Enjoy your week!
Andrea
