Greetings ,
One thing I really like about my current home is that I can dry my washing on a clothesline (1) outside.
That was normal for me before I moved to Germany.
Growing up, I sometimes had to help Mum hang wet clothes outside on the clothesline. More often, I had to help get the clothes in when they were (hopefully!) dry.
The area I lived in when I had my first job was known for having a lot of rain. It was a coastal area, so there was usually wind as well.
The flat I lived in had a clothesline outside, which I used.
I wasn't too worried about my washing getting wet when I was at work. The wind would soon dry it again. There were days when it got wet and then dry several times before I arrived home and took it off the line.
My next flat also had a clothesline outside.
However, the weather was different there. There was a lot less wind. I could hang jeans outside in winter. After two or three days, even if it was sunny, they still wouldn't be dry!
Then I moved to Germany.
The first building I lived in had a laundry (2) with a coin-operated (3) washing machine and dryer. There was a tiny amount of hanging space in the room, but I didn't use it.
My next place didn't have a laundry or clothesline π₯.
So I was impressed with the facilities at my current place when I first saw them.
The laundry room has space for hanging wet washing.
Then outside, there's a clothesline. It's on the sunny side of the garage. It also has a little roof to protect it from the rain.
My clothes dry quickly outside. Thanks to the little roof, I don't have to worry about my washing getting wet if it rains when I'm at work.
The other bonus - it's always empty π. I think I'm the only one who uses the outdoor line. Everyone else dries their clothes inside.
Do you live somewhere with a clothesline outside, or do you dry your washing indoors? Would you like an outdoors clothesline?
Until next week,
Andrea
(1) clothesline - a 'line' (wire?) where you can hang your wet washing to dry
(2) laundry - the room where your washing machine and clothes dryer live
(3) coin-operated - you put coins (e.g. 50 cents) into a slot so that the machine will start
