Mind reading is a circus act

image

Hello there, .

A common line I hear from husbands and wives is, "How does my spouse expect me to know what he/she's thinking? I'm not a mindreader."

I know I've said it a lot about Cetelia, and I imagine you've said it a time or two about your mate.

As I write this, I shudder to think about how often I have been the one acting like my wife is a mindreader. I don't say anything, and then I'm surprised when her words or actions don't align with what I was thinking.

An example is me wanting a hug (my love language is physical touch). There have been times when I've been pining for Cetelia to hug me or even touch my shoulder or rub my arm or something. When she didn't, I felt disappointed and like she defrauded me.

But, I wouldn't have needed to be all down in the dumps had I asked her for a hug instead of expecting her to read my mind.

Sure, I can make a case that she should have hugged me because she knows my love language. But, who cares about the case I can make if it doesn't result in the action I desire?

What do you need or want from your spouse that you aren't talking about? Stop keeping it a secret and expecting your spouse to read your mind.
