G'day ,
For me, planning travel and choosing hotels is fun. So, before my recent (1) holiday, I enjoyed getting online and checking out hotels in the area I wanted. There weren't many to choose from, but I found what I wanted, made the reservations, and got emails that confirmed my bookings.
On the first day, after a long hike, I arrived in a little town ready to check into my hotel.
I found the hotel easily - it was on the main street. But there was a problem: it was closed! I couldn't believe it!
What should I do?
I tried phoning the contact numbers that I had. One of the numbers simply didn't work. The other one was for the hotel - I could hear the phone ringing inside the building, but nobody answered it.
Near the front door was an information sheet that gave opening times - just under two hours to go if it was correct (the date said 2022!).
I decided to buy dinner. Thankfully a couple of small eateries (2) along the street were open.
As I ate I thought about my situation. Was the hotel going to open, or had it closed down and I hadn't been told?
It was a small town; I didn't know any other places I could stay. If I couldn't sleep here, I needed to make another plan.
I checked the hotel door again and also phoned.
There was still no answer.
So I went into a shop across the street. It was a small town, so maybe they could give me information about the hotel.
I asked the shop assistant, however, she couldn't help me. There were also two men in the shop. One of them told me what I wanted to know. If he was correct, it was about opening time.
I went back out onto the street, very close to the hotel, and suddenly heard my name. It was someone from the hotel.
What a relief (3)! I was finally able to go to my room and relax.
There was a moment in this story when I really wondered what I was going to do. Have you had a moment like that - your plan was falling to pieces and you didn't know what to do?
Wishing you a week of plans that work!
Andrea
(1) recent - in the past, but only just past
(2) eateries - places you can eat at, cafés, restaurants etc.
(3) relief - the feeling of happiness when something bad ends (or doesn't happen 😀)
