Dear ,
I love making things π₯°. That is mainly good, as most of the things I make are useful. It can also be bad. When I visit craft markets, I look at the fantastic items, but I seldom buy things. That's because when I look at something, I think, "I can make that."
Over the years, I've tried several different crafts. Some of them I enjoyed doing, and made heaps of projects. Others I didn't do much of at all.
Last week I started working on a challenge - how to make some nice, but cheap Christmas table decorations. I looked online for ideas and finally got inspired (2). Origami!
When I was very young, I learned how to fold a couple of things out of paper (besides paper aeroplanes!). One was a paper boat. A few times I was allowed to float my boat in water.
Later, I had a book with some origami projects in it. Making a cup was boring. The cranes (birds, not machines π) were more interesting, but not very useful.
At work, I watched a colleague show a class how to fold a cube (3). They used the cubes in their lesson. At my cousin's wedding party, I used a menu to make one of those cubes. Then we threw it around the table.
Back to the Christmas decorations... I found some instructions for a paper star. There are several different origami stars you can fold. I tried one and found it was pretty easy.
I also found the instructions for a Christmas tree. That was a bit more difficult. However, my test tree turned out quite well.
With the folding under control, I then needed to find a place to buy large sheets of thick paper. That took a couple of visits to shops I don't often go into, but I now have everything I need.
It'll keep me busy for a while - I don't need too many trees, but I need to make heaps of stars. But I have plenty of time.
So, , have you ever done any origami? Do you do another craft? Feel free to tell me about it...
Wishing you a week full of successful crafting.
Andrea
(1) decorations - things used to make something (e.g. a room, or Christmas tree) look beautiful
(2) inspired - had a good idea
(3) a cube - a shape that is a square, but 3D. You can buy sugar cubes in the supermarket.
