Dear ,
On Saturday, something happened at a neighbour's place.
A lady passed a large box up to another lady, who was on the balcony. Next, the first lady appeared on the balcony, putting together a cupboard.
It brought back so many memories.
I remembered playing with Lego blocks, putting them together to make all sorts of things. Most of the time, I built things from my ideas. But there was also the 'special' set. The directions showed you exactly how to build everything so it was like the picture on the box.
Many years later, I bought storage shelves (1). That was fun. They were wooden ones I had to join together. It was easy - the pack came with everything I needed. They had even drilled (2) holes in the wood. Those shelves were quick to build!
Then, a computer desk. That was more difficult but also a fun challenge. It took longer than the shelves, but not too long. I laid everything out and followed the instructions.
There was a part for the keyboard that rolled away and a separate piece for the monitor to sit on.
Everything worked perfectly.
I was so impressed with the desk that I bought one for my sister, who was at university. She and a friend put it together.
You would expect two people to do a job faster than one person, but it didn't quite work that way. They followed the instructions but couldn't understand how one piece fitted in. When we took a closer look, it didn't fit. There was a mistake - the piece hadn't been made properly.
That was a disappointment. Thankfully, the main parts of the desk went together and it was basically fine.
Then there were the cupboards the landlord bought for my last flat. He organised a young guy to put them together and install them.
I really wanted to help! And I did - a bit... I unpacked the pieces. But I didn't put anything together - I didn't want to do anything wrong!
What are your thoughts on putting things together - do you enjoy the challenge or hate it? And do you follow the instructions, or do you prefer just doing it your way?
Have a great week,
Andrea
(1) storage shelves - shelves to store (or keep) things on
(2) drilled - 'made' holes in the wood, using a drill
