AI WON'T FIX YOUR AMAZON OPERATION. YOU WILL.

There's a version of this story everyone in ecommerce wants to believe.

You plug AI into your Amazon account. It reads the data, figures out what's broken, and fixes it. Margins go up. ACOS goes down. You go to the beach.

That version doesn't exist.

Here's what actually happens when you hand AI a mess: it automates the mess.

Faster. At scale. With your ad budget.

The problem isn't AI. The problem is what you're feeding it.

Garbage in, garbage out is the oldest rule in computing. It applies to AI with even more force, because AI is better at executing at speed than it is at recognizing when the inputs are wrong in the first place.

Think about what that means across your Amazon operation.

PPC:
Most accounts have campaign structures built up over years of patching. Redundant targets. Bleeding match types. Ad groups that made sense in 2022 and haven't been touched since.

Drop AI bidding tools into that without cleaning house first, and you're not optimizing - you're accelerating the bleed.

The AI will follow its instructions perfectly. The instructions are just pointing at the wrong thing.

Listings:
AI can write bullet points. It can generate A+ content. It can spin variations in seconds.

But if you haven't defined your positioning, your target customer, your differentiation - the AI is just filling space with confident-sounding words. Words that rank for nothing and convert nobody.

But if your historical data is dirty - inconsistent SKUs, misrecorded returns, phantom stock events - the forecast will be confidently wrong.

AI doesn't know your warehouse made a data entry error in November. It just plans around a number that was never real.

Account monitoring:
Same story. AI can flag anomalies, detect suppressed listings, catch hijackers faster than any human could.

But it needs to know what "normal" looks like for your account. That context has to come from you.

An AI watching an account it doesn't understand is just an expensive alarm that goes off at the wrong times.

Margin optimization:
This is the one that burns people the most quietly. AI tools will find ways to cut spend, adjust pricing, tighten bids.

They're optimizing for the metric you told them to optimize for.

If that metric isn't actually connected to your real profitability - if you're not accounting for COGS correctly, or you've got promo costs buried somewhere they shouldn't be - the AI will celebrate a win that's costing you money.

The pattern is always the same. The AI isn't the failure. The foundation is the failure.

The sellers and agencies pulling real results from AI right now aren't the ones who found the best tool.

They're the ones who did the boring work first. They cleaned the campaign structure. They tightened the data inputs.

They defined what the AI should optimize for and what guardrails it needs to stay inside.

Then they let the AI run.

That sequence matters. A lot.

AI is an accelerant. Make sure you're pointing it at something worth accelerating.

Amazon quietly enrolled every Sponsored Products advertiser in something called SP Prompts. When shoppers ask Rufus questions like "Does [Brand] have a dish soap that's plant-based?", your product can now show up as the conversational answer.

Not a banner ad. Not a search result. A direct response inside an AI chat.

One account recently pulled 4 orders and $512 in sales from the feature. Total ad spend: $0. It's still in beta and appears to be completely free.

Most sellers have no idea this is happening to their account right now.

What to do: Go to your ad group inside Seller Central and download the SP Prompts Report (it won't show in the default Prompts tab - you have to download it separately).

Review the questions Amazon is auto-generating for your products. Toggle off anything irrelevant.

Make sure your detail page actually answers the ones that are spot on.

The free beta won't last. When Amazon turns this into an auction - and they will - the sellers who studied their prompts data now will have a serious head start.


Amazon and OpenAI just announced the biggest AI infrastructure deal ever

Amazon is investing $50 billion in OpenAI. The headline number is wild, but the details matter more for anyone in this space.

The two companies are co-building what they're calling a "Stateful Runtime Environment" - essentially AI that actually remembers things across sessions and can run ongoing workflows without losing context. Right now most AI tools start fresh every conversation.

This changes that.

AWS becomes the exclusive third-party cloud distributor for OpenAI's enterprise platform.

OpenAI commits to running its infrastructure on Amazon's custom Trainium chips.

The practical outcome: enterprise AI agents that operate across real business systems with persistent memory, built-in governance, and no infrastructure headaches.

That's the direction the whole industry is moving, and this deal just accelerated the timeline significantly.

For Amazon sellers and agencies, the implication is simple: the AI tools you'll be using in 18 months will be fundamentally more capable than what exists today.

The gap between operators who've built AI-ready workflows and those who haven't is about to get wider.
